In the Beginning
Water is life; its absence can extinguish it.
In the heart of the arid Gobi Desert, a mother and her son struggle to survive while herding camels. Their wells have run dry, leaving them desperate for fresh drinking water. In this isolated landscape, the son is the only man, and the mother the only woman, forcing them into a relentless battle for survival as they dig into the parched earth. Despite their efforts, they find only enough water for their livestock, not for themselves.
Driven by desperation, the mother resorts to selling her body to obtain the water they so desperately need, navigating the long lines of truck drivers who wait for weeks to load coal. Under the cover of night, she hauls the precious water back home on her camel.
As they continue their tireless digging, hope finally surfaces when water emerges from the well—a fleeting moment of joy. Yet, their relief turns to disappointment when they realize it’s only mineral water. Sitting on the edge of the well, the mother gazes into the distance, her eyes filled with worry for the uncertain future ahead.
