The Lake

The Lake

Temirkul, an old history teacher lives on the shore of the Issyk Kul lake. An old man who lost his only daughter when he was young never fully recovered from that loss. He believes in the legend that Kyrgyz people since olden days never consumed fish because they believed that souls of ancestors become fish in the sacred lake while waiting for the new incarnation. His neighbor Askhat resentful from the daily need for survival is forced to poach to feed his family. The daughter of the poacher, 11 year old Zhyldyz influenced by the old man has an internal protest against poaching.
